KMA reminds public of demolition deadline for unauthorized structures around Baba Yara Stadium

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a reminder to owners of unauthorized structures around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to remove their properties before the scheduled demolition exercise on April 6, 2026.

In a press release dated March 4, 2026, the Assembly referred to its earlier statement issued on February 5, 2026, which granted an extension for the removal of illegal structures within the stadium enclave.

According to the KMA, the exercise forms part of efforts to sanitize the surroundings of the stadium and restore order and aesthetic value to the area.

The Assembly indicated that traditional and regional authorities, including Nana Adu Mensah Asare, the Amakomhene, Nana Baffour Kofi Atobra, the Dadiesoabahene, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, appealed during a Regional Security Council meeting on February 4, 2026, for additional time to allow affected individuals to relocate their structures.

The request was accepted, leading to the extension of the demolition deadline.

However, the KMA has stressed that the new deadline of April 6, 2026, remains final and non-negotiable. Owners of the structures have therefore been urged to voluntarily remove them before the date to avoid any inconvenience during the demolition exercise.

The Assembly also cautioned the public against paying money to individuals claiming to act on behalf of the Mayor. According to the statement, KMA has received reports that some persons are collecting GHS 1,500 from affected traders and occupants with the claim that the money will be given to the Mayor to halt the demolition.

KMA strongly denied these claims, stating that neither the Mayor nor the Assembly has authorized the collection of any such payments.

The Assembly warned that it will not entertain any such arrangements and urged the public to ignore and report anyone making such demands.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly further appealed to all affected persons to cooperate with authorities to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise as the city moves to improve the environment around the stadium.
