Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, has been acknowledged for his exceptional efforts in advancing tourism in Ghana.
At the 2023 National Tourism Awards, he was presented with a plaque and citation recognizing his significant contributions to drawing tourists and investors to the Western region.
The ceremony, celebrated under the 50th anniversary of the Ghana Tourism Authority, saw 25 stakeholders in the tourism sector receiving awards for their outstanding contributions in various categories.
The event, termed an honorary edition, aimed to appreciate individuals for their roles in tourism investments, arts, tour guiding, tour operation, and academia.
Mr. Darko-Mensah, in addition to his award, launched a 128-page book titled “Discover Western Region” aimed at promoting tourism attractions and attracting investors to the region.
The Accra International Conference Centre hosted the ceremonial night of arts, culture, and entertainment where players in the tourism value chain gathered to celebrate the achievements of the sector.
Among the awardees were notable personalities such as musician Okyeame Kwame for Artistic Support to the Tourism Industry, Kojo Bentum for Active Promotion of Tourism, Kwaku Passah for Contribution to Tourism Development, Wode Maya for Social Media Marketing, and Ibrahim Mahama for Artistic Support to Tourism.
Other recipients included Lucas Candid Mensah for Tourism Promotion in Cape Coast Oguaa, Enimil Ashon for Tourism Promotion, and Bryan Acheampong for Tourism Investment, among others.
The National Tourism Awards, initiated by the Ghana Tourism Authority in 1997, seeks to recognize and reward outstanding performance in the tourism sector.
