Mr. Francis Agbemadi, the Volta Regional Director of Education, has emphasized the importance of acquiring technological skills among students to foster self-employment and combat unemployment in the country. Speaking at the 71st-anniversary celebration of Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco), Mr Agbemadi urged students to embrace technology to make meaningful contributions to society.

He stressed the need for students to become tech-savvy in order to create self-employed jobs, thereby reducing the unemployment rate. Mr. Agbemadi highlighted the importance of incorporating 21st-century technology, vocational, technical, and entrepreneurial skills into the education system to prepare students for the future job market.

Furthermore, Mrs Dr Grace Amey-Obeng, an old student and Guest Speaker at the event encouraged students to take advantage of the modern technological world by engaging in online courses to upgrade their skills and adapt to the present era.

In his address, Mr Innocent Augustt, the Headmaster of the school, disclosed the challenges faced by the institution, including inadequate dormitories and classrooms, a shortage of teachers, and infrastructural deficits. He appealed to old students, philanthropists, individuals, and the government to assist in addressing these challenges.

Despite the obstacles, Mr. Augustt highlighted the school’s achievements in sports, technology, academic performance, and participation in national competitions like the National Maths and Science Quiz. He expressed the school’s commitment to attaining the desired grade ‘A’ status.

The celebration, themed “Taking Advantage of Modern Technology for Job Creation and Self-Employment in the Global Economy,” brought together old students, educational leaders, teachers, and students to reflect on the importance of technology in driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities.
