The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has issued a stern warning of an impending industrial action if the government fails to settle the long-overdue tier-2 Pension contributions owed to its members.

The ultimatum was conveyed through a statement signed by Isaac Donkoh, the National President of the Association.

According to the statement, the government is required to promptly settle all outstanding debts and contributions, including the appropriate interest from February to December 2023.

The specified penalty rates, amounting to three percent, as outlined in the Pension’s Act, Act 766 section 64, should be applied.

Isaac Donkoh emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that failure to meet these financial obligations would result in a withdrawal of services across all university campuses, starting from Monday, January 15th, 2024.

In addition to the pension concerns, the statement also highlighted another grievance.

Mr Donkoh demanded the immediate withdrawal of letters dated November 7 and 20, 2023, issued by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) respectively.

These letters, according to the statement, illegally eliminate overtime allowance for senior staff.

The SSA-UoG’s declaration reflects the growing tension between university staff and the government over unresolved financial matters, emphasizing the need for swift and effective resolution to avert disruptions in the academic sector.
