Mr Selorm Adadevoh, CEO of MTN Ghana, has pledged increased investment to address the issue of fibre cuts in the Western Region.
Despite providing quality services in the region, the CEO expressed concern about the negative impact of illegal mining activities on their underground cables.
Adadevoh emphasized the need to find a solution to the disruptions caused by irresponsible digging operations, stating, “We are doing our best to solve this problem.”
The commitment to address fibre cuts was made at MTN's media and stakeholder forum for the Western and Central Regions held in Takoradi under the theme “Leveraging Technology to Serve Customers with Excellence.”
The CEO announced plans to invest an additional 35 kilometers of cable in the region and explore the possibility of changing some underground cables to aerial cables to reduce costs.
Highlighting some of MTN's achievements, Adadevoh mentioned the establishment of a robotics laboratory, ICT libraries, and digital skills programs, including support for the girls in ICT initiative with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization.
He also mentioned the success of MTN's “Stand-Up Projects to Save a Life” campaign, which collected 6,440 units of blood and distributed them to hospitals across the country.
Adadevoh further highlighted MTN's contributions to education through scholarship programs for brilliant but needy students and the launch of the MTN Enterprise Support Programme. The company also supported interventions and investments related to World Malaria Day through the MTN Foundation.
In 2022, MTN contributed four billion Ghana cedis to government revenue, and its mobile money service (MOMO) now boasts 280,000 agents and 150 active merchants nationwide.
Mr Prince Owusu Nyarko, Regional Senior Manager South West, explained that this year's theme reflected MTN's commitment to ensuring that everyone benefits from modern connected life.
He emphasized MTN's dedication to bridging the digital divide, promoting financial inclusion, and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Despite the challenging economic conditions, Nyarko expressed confidence in Africa's promising future and the role of technology in driving development.
