Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, has inaugurated a nationwide training programme aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of construction industry artisans and contractors. The programme, organized by the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GHCCI) in collaboration with the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), will focus on key areas such as e-procurement, cybersecurity, and health and safety.
Under the first phase of the programme, 242 Constituent Members will undergo training facilitated by the Public Procurement Authority, Cyber Security Authority, and Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals. Dr Adutwum emphasized the importance of staying updated with modern trends in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, highlighting the efficiency and transparency offered by electronic procurement.
He underscored the significance of cybersecurity in the digital era, stressing the need for vigilance against cyber threats and vulnerabilities. The training programme aims to empower participants with the necessary tools and techniques to safeguard assets and foster a culture of cyber awareness within their organizations.
Additionally, Dr Adutwum emphasized the importance of health and safety in creating a conducive working environment, emphasizing the protection of the well-being of the workforce to enhance productivity and resilience.
Emmanuel Cherry, CEO of the GHCCI, outlined the objectives of the training programme, which include enhancing the skills, knowledge, and competitiveness of players in the construction industry. The programme seeks to equip participants with the necessary capabilities to participate effectively in electronic procurement and e-commerce processes, while also addressing cybersecurity and health and safety breaches.
Chairman of the GHCCI, Emmanuel T. Martey, emphasized the importance of staying updated with new trends in the operating environment to remain competitive in the construction industry.
Dr. Justice Amoh, Executive Chairman of Justmoh Group of Companies, reiterated the significance of the construction industry in socio-economic development and job creation. He emphasized the importance of delivering projects on schedule with high quality to contribute to national development.
