Ghanaian music sensation Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known as “Shatta Wale,” is expanding his musical horizons by venturing into Afrobeats, a genre different from his dancehall roots.
In a recent interview with DJ Edu on BBC's ‘This is Africa,' Shatta Wale shared his transition to Afrobeats ahead of the release of his first Afrobeats album titled ‘Konekt.'
Shatta Wale's track “Incoming,” featuring Nigerian Afrobeats artist Tekno, has been gaining widespread recognition and accumulating impressive streaming numbers.
The musician explained that he has decided to embrace Afrobeats, recognizing its growing influence in the international music scene. He expressed his desire to provide fans with a taste of Afrobeats music.
Shatta Wale stated, “I don't want to be hard on this journey that I want to pursue. I want to be loving… I want people to really see my fun side, my hilarious moments, and my happiness. I just want people to know that I am happy now and I want to share that with the world.”
Acknowledging the success of Afrobeats artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, and Tiwa Savage, Shatta Wale indicated that it felt like he had graduated from dancehall. He emphasized his goal of delighting his fans with music that reflects current trends and ensures their enjoyment.
Shatta Wale, known for his controversy and unique style, has been a prominent figure in the Ghanaian music scene for over two decades, amassing numerous local and international awards during his career.
