IGP Dampare assures peaceful 2024 elections: Ghana News

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. , has affirmed the commitment of security agencies to ensure a peaceful and incident-free in Ghana.

Speaking at a meeting of the national election security task force at the Police headquarters, the IGP expressed confidence that the upcoming polls would be as peaceful as previous elections under his leadership.

“We want to assure my sister (EC Chairperson) that we will continue to work with my colleagues here to ensure that just as elections in the country since I took over have been peaceful, the 2024 polls will be the same,” assured Dr. Akuffo Dampare.

Furthermore, he pledged to protect everyone involved in the electoral process, emphasizing the collaborative effort of security agencies to maintain peace during the elections.

The Chief of Defense Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, echoed the commitment of the to provide background support to the Police and other security agencies responsible for election security.

While noting that the army wouldn't play a frontal role, Vice Admiral Amoama stated, “For the election proper, we may not be in the upfront of election duties, but we will be in the background to support you, the Police Service, and other security services.”

He affirmed the readiness of the Armed Forces to act accordingly when called upon, emphasizing their constitutional duty to protect the country from external and internal threats.
