Network failure disrupts second day of limited voter registration

Despite assurances from the (EC) that network issues had been resolved, the second day of the limited voter registration faced disruptions due to ongoing connectivity challenges.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services, addressed concerns about the registration process on JoyNews' PM Express, acknowledging that internet connectivity issues had caused difficulties on the first day. He reassured the public that most of these issues had been resolved, anticipating a smoother registration process with minimal interruptions.

However, observations at the Ablekuma West EC district office on Wednesday contradicted these assurances. As of 12:00 hours, only 36 individuals had successfully registered, with a total of 95 registrations since the exercise commenced on May 7, 2024.

Alhaji Mohammed, the Returning Officer at the Ablekuma West EC district office, confirmed to the (GNA) that progress was hindered by persistent network failures. Despite expressing hope for a swift resolution, the issue persisted, affecting the registration process.

Some party agents acknowledged a slight improvement in Wednesday's exercise compared to the previous day. Ransford Adjei, a National Democratic Congress () agent, noted a smoother process initially, despite slowdowns later in the day. Collins Amponsah, representing the New Patriotic Party (), also expressed overall satisfaction with the progress.

The ongoing limited voter registration drive is crucial preparation for the upcoming 2024 General Election, aligning with Article 45 of the 1992 Constitution. The 21-day exercise is taking place across the EC's 268 District Offices nationwide and is scheduled to conclude on May 27, 2024.
