Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has declared his ambitious vision to secure victory in both the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Ghana during his tenure. Speaking at a GFA-organized press conference in Kumasi, Okraku emphasized that achieving these objectives would not only be his personal aim but also a collective goal for the entire administration.
“My vision is to win the World Cup and the AFCON for Ghana, and that's the vision of everyone at the FA,” Okraku stated, highlighting the high aspirations set forth by the association.
Since assuming the role of Ghana's football chief in 2019, Okraku has overseen three major tournaments, including the 2021 AFCON, 2022 FIFA World Cup, and 2023 AFCON. However, Ghana's performance in these tournaments has been below expectations, with the team failing to progress from their group and winning only one game out of nine matches combined.
The disappointing outcome of the 2023 AFCON, where the Black Stars failed to advance from a group comprising Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, has sparked concerns about the future trajectory of football in Ghana.
Amidst these challenges, Okraku has faced scrutiny for the frequent changes in coaching staff during his tenure, having appointed four different coaches within four years as FA boss. Despite these setbacks, Okraku remains resolute in his determination to lead Ghana to success on the international stage.
Okraku's ambitious goals underscore the GFA's commitment to elevating the country's footballing prowess and achieving significant milestones in global and continental competitions.
