In a press release from the Tamale branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), the association officially condemns the attack on CITI FM/TV reporter, Mr Mohammed Aminu Alabira, during the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries in the Yendi Constituency.
Mr Alabira reported that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, physically assaulted him while he was covering the event.
The GJA calls the act “antediluvian” and urges the Ghana Police Service to urgently arrest the MP, emphasizing the need for justice in the matter. The GJA reaffirms its commitment to protecting journalists in the region and warns against any form of abuse on journalists, especially during the heated political season.
The press statement is signed by Yakubu Abdul-Majeed, Chairman of GJA-N/R.
