“I’m offering a helping hand, so take advantage of it. Learn, build capacity and move on… Life has never been easy. It’s rough, but with your faith in God, trust me, no danger can befall you. Out of you, there will be MPs, ministers, presidents, great businessmen and women someday,” he stated.
In response, Mr Gideon Senator Xorvi, President of the Volta Region Students Association of the University of Ghana, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of his colleagues. He pledged that the group would work hard to justify the confidence and investment the legislator had made in their education.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, whose father, Moses Apetogou Kofi, hails from Tsiame in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region and whose mother is a Fante from Winneba in the Central Region, has long been recognised for his dedication to education and youth development.
Despite facing challenges during his formative years, he achieved an impressive academic record, studying law at Buckingham University and later obtaining a master’s degree in international politics and security studies at Bradford University in the United Kingdom.
His commitment to education is further reflected in several impactful initiatives, including the “One Teacher, One Laptop” programme and the construction of 14 libraries across the Effutu Constituency. These projects were designed to enhance teaching and learning, as well as to foster a strong reading culture among young people.
Through his sustained efforts, Mr Afenyo-Markin continues to demonstrate a deep commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth and promoting access to quality education.
