The Kadjebi District Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has provided relief support to 257 displaced persons fleeing the protracted conflict in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The displaced, comprising 120 males and 137 females, are currently being hosted in the Kadjebi District after abandoning their homes in search of safety.

District NADMO Director, Mr. Reuben Kemavor, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the relief items—which included bags of rice, cooking oil, soap, cups, and mosquito coils—were meant to provide immediate comfort and help the victims resettle temporarily. “The presentation is to make them feel at home and to assure them that they are not alone in this difficult period,” he said.
The conflict, which has persisted for months, stems from disputes among the Challa, Adele, and Akyode ethnic groups, all laying claim to the Nkwanta township. It has triggered sporadic violence, destruction of property, and widespread displacement, forcing many families to seek refuge in neighbouring districts.
Some victims expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that their sudden displacement left them without food and basic supplies. They, however, appealed for additional assistance, particularly in the areas of shelter, clothing, and medical care.
Local authorities in Kadjebi acknowledged that the influx of displaced persons was stretching already limited community resources. They appealed for further support from government, NGOs, and benevolent individuals to help manage the humanitarian situation.
Meanwhile, security agencies continue to maintain a presence in Nkwanta and surrounding communities to restore peace and order, while mediation efforts are underway to secure a lasting resolution to the crisis.
