The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a quantity of ammunition during two separate intelligence-led operations in the Oti Region.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of 750 live J/G cartridges concealed in a black polythene bag containing three brown boxes, each packed with 250 rounds of ammunition.

Police said suspect Hudu Mahama, 53, who was serving as the driver’s mate, admitted ownership of the ammunition during preliminary interrogation.

In a separate operation on the same day, a joint Police and Military team retrieved a box containing 125 AA cartridges and 125 BB cartridges, making a total of 250 rounds of ammunition, after the box reportedly fell from a suspect’s motorbike during a pursuit operation.

The unidentified rider escaped, but preliminary inspection of the retrieved box led to the arrest of suspect Christian Kwasi Alonise, 57.

Police said both suspects are currently in custody assisting investigations, while the retrieved ammunition has been retained as evidence.

The Joint Security team added that efforts are ongoing to retrieve a second box allegedly carried away by the unidentified rider and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area.
