Engineering Council of Ghana Inaugurates

The Governing Board of the Engineering Council of Ghana has inaugurated six Technical Committees to strengthen its regulatory mandate under the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819). The committees are: Disciplinary, Legal and Ethics Committee; Education and Training Committee; Finance and Administration Committee; Licensing and Registration Committee; Public and International Affairs Committee; and Standards and Professional Practice Committee.

In an address read on his behalf, Mr. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, highlighted that recurring engineering failures such as building collapses and water system breakdowns undermined Ghana’s development. He urged the committees to deliver evidence-based recommendations, uphold integrity, and avoid any hint of bias or corruption.

Mr. Adjei further reminded members that the public demands safety, quality, and accountability, and called for tangible results, including revised standards, disciplinary actions, and accreditation frameworks within a reasonable timeframe. He emphasized that their expertise must serve the nation, acting as a safeguard against substandard practices.

Mr. Isaac Bedu, Registrar of the Council, in his welcome address, said the committees’ work was critical to enabling the Council to regulate, oversee, and advance the engineering profession. He praised the newly inaugurated members as distinguished professionals from industry and academia whose proven leadership and dedication position them to drive meaningful reforms.
