The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed recent power outages in parts of Accra to a heavy rainstorm that affected sections of the city.
In a statement, ECG explained that the downpour, accompanied by strong winds, caused disruptions to its distribution network, leading to outages in several communities. The company noted that fallen trees, damaged power lines, and affected transformers contributed to the interruptions.

Technical teams have since been deployed to assess the extent of the damage and carry out repair works to restore electricity supply. ECG assured customers that efforts are underway to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
The company also urged the public to exercise caution during such weather conditions, particularly around fallen cables and electrical installations, which may pose safety risks.
Residents in affected areas have expressed frustration over the outages, especially in light of ongoing concerns about power reliability. However, ECG maintains that weather-related disruptions are sometimes unavoidable and require time to fix safely.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of power infrastructure to extreme weather and has renewed calls for improved system resilience to minimize future disruptions.
