Mr Thomas Maswud Ayarba, the Municipal Chief Executive of Atebubu/Amantin in the Bono East Region, has appealed to commercial drivers in the municipality to rescind their decision to withdraw services and return to work.
His call comes after some drivers laid down their tools to demand an upward adjustment in lorry fares, a move that left scores of passengers stranded at the Atebubu lorry station, the Ghana News Agency observed.

In an interview, Mr Ayarba said the Assembly was working closely with transport unions to agree on stable fares that would serve the interests of both drivers and passengers. He assured that the concerns of the drivers were being taken seriously and pledged that the issue would be resolved.
Some drivers who also spoke to the GNA called on government to intervene in the rising cost of spare parts and vehicle tyres, stressing that the situation was undermining their livelihoods.
