Nana Kyerewia Kodie V, the Omanhene of the Abrem Traditional Area in the Komenda-Edina- Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region, has urged the government and non-governmental organisations to prioritise development support for the region.
With a population exceeding 20,000, the Abrem community faces significant challenges such as clean drinking water and proper road infrastructure.
During a recent gathering in Abrem aimed at the establishment of a Senior High School and a gari processing factory, Nana Kodie V expressed disappointment at the lack of allocation of government resources to the area, particularly for educational and infrastructure improvement.
He further emphasised the need for investment in agriculture as a viable solution to combat illegal mining, commonly referred to as “galamsey.”
By creating job opportunities in the agricultural sector, he believed that the government could help redirect the youth away from the perils of illegal mining activities.
Mr Ishmael Zagoon, the Municipal Chief Executive for KEEA, assured the community of the government was strongly against illegal mining.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to facilitating development in the Abrem Traditional Area.
