Sefwi Wiawso MCE connects 43 communities to national grid, outlines six-month development record

Sefwi Wiawso, Western North Region – Mr. Dominic Gyasi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sefwi Wiawso, has unveiled a raft of development projects rolled out in his first six months in office, highlighting the extension of electricity to 43 communities.

Speaking at his maiden press briefing on the theme “Transparency and Accountability in Local Governance,” Mr. Gyasi said the electrification initiative, undertaken in partnership with the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), also included the installation of streetlights in Asaman, Asawinso, Kokokrom, and St. Joseph SHS. He noted that the move would help curb night crimes while boosting local economic activity.

On education, the MCE disclosed that the Assembly had distributed 85 mono desks, 85 dual desks, six desktop computers, and free textbooks to basic schools. Additionally, 71,413 sanitary pads were supplied to basic schools and 38,119 to senior high schools, while 13 brilliant students benefited from government scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Key infrastructure interventions include the construction of three-unit classroom blocks at Penakrom Nyamebekye and Pewodie, as well as the completion of a six-unit block with an office and toilet facility at Aboduam. Mr. Gyasi also announced upcoming projects such as a two-storey hostel for Asafo Community Health Nursing Training School and a maternity ward for the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital.

The Assembly has also earmarked civic and market improvements, including the renovation of the Sefwi Wiawso roundabout, installation of traffic lights, conversion of the Dwenase weekly market into a daily one, and the establishment of a 24-hour economy market at Sefwi Asawinso.

According to Mr. Gyasi, the projects align with President John Mahama’s “resetting agenda,” which seeks to strengthen citizen participation, accountability, and equitable development.
