The government emphasized that the Mediation Report is not intended to assign blame or declare winners and losers.
It reaffirmed the Supreme Court‘s recognition of Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the lawful Bawku Naba, and accepted the recommendation that Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival claimant, be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to assume an alternative traditional role.
Arrangements will be made for his safe relocation to receive directives from the Overlord of Mamprugu.
Government further requested that His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II continue to lend his moral authority to reconciliation efforts between the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities.
Acknowledging the severe human, social, and economic toll of the protracted conflict, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Finance to establish a One Billion Ghana Cedi Bawku Revitalisation Fund.
Scheduled for disbursement between 2026 and 2028, the Fund will support reconstruction and development of priority infrastructure, including roads, healthcare facilities, schools, dams, irrigation systems, security installations, and commercial facilities, with the aim of restoring Bawku to its historic status as a major economic hub in Northern Ghana.
The Fund will be overseen by a high-level committee chaired by Minister of Finance and Acting Minister for Defence, Hon. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, with membership including Upper East Regional Minister Hon. Donaltus Akamuguri and Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, representing local MPs.
In calling for national support, the government urged traditional authorities, political leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, religious bodies, development partners, and citizens to unite behind the peace-building process.
President Mahama echoed the admonition of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that the process recognizes no winners or losers, stressing the need for all parties to abide by the Report’s recommendations in the interest of peace and stability.
The government expressed profound gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Nayiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahama Sheriga II, the Bawku Naba, and all stakeholders whose cooperation made the mediation process successful.
