Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has officially invited President John Dramani Mahama to serve as the special guest of honour at the Association’s 2025 Awards Ceremony. The event is scheduled to be held in Kumasi, with the final date to be determined between the last week of October and the first week of November, based on the President’s availability.
The invitation was extended during a courtesy call by the GJA Executives at the Presidency in Accra, where the Association also presented a number of concerns for government intervention. Mr. Dwumfuor highlighted that, after 28 years of hosting the awards in Accra, the GJA had resolved to move this year’s edition to Kumasi. He further announced that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had agreed to host the ceremony at Manhyia.

President Mahama, in response, asked the GJA to submit its budget for the 2025 Awards to Mr. Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister in-charge of Government Communications, for consideration. He explained that this would help determine the government’s level of support for the event.
Addressing long-standing issues, the President said the Lands Commission could ensure that the title deeds for the GJA Headquarters property, allocated under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, were properly registered in the Association’s name.
President Mahama, himself a trained journalist, communications specialist, and member of the GJA, pledged government support—alongside that of corporate partners—for the Association’s plan to construct a modern headquarters complex.
