President John Dramani Mahama has announced a series of agreements with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness aimed at strengthening historical, political and economic ties between Ghana and Jamaica.
During bilateral talks in Kingston, the two leaders agreed to fast-track a Bilateral Air Services Agreement to establish direct flights between Accra and Montego Bay and work towards direct maritime transhipment routes across the Atlantic.

They also agreed to connect Ghanaian and Jamaican businesses to promote cross-border investment, with Ghana offering Jamaican investors access to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) market while encouraging Ghanaian investment in Jamaica’s real estate, manufacturing and construction sectors.
President Mahama said the two countries had signed an agreement for Ghanaian health professionals to support Jamaica’s health system and would also pursue exchange programmes for health workers and teachers in science, mathematics and physics.
The leaders further discussed a Defence Cooperation Agreement to strengthen disaster response and security cooperation, reaffirmed support for the global reparations agenda, and exchanged invitations ahead of Jamaica’s Independence Anniversary and Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations next year.
