Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education admits 240 new students

Amedzofe, , Ghana – The Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education at Amedzofe has welcomed 240 new students for the 2023/2024 academic year. Among them, women constitute the majority, comprising 52% of the admitted students. These new students were chosen from a pool of over 700 applicants to the institution, which is situated within Ghana's highest human settlement in the West District of the .

The breakdown of the admitted students' chosen Bachelor in Education programs is as follows: 93 students will pursue Bachelor in Education in Junior High School Education, 34 have enrolled in Junior High School French Education, 79 have opted for Upper Primary Education, and 34 will pursue Bachelor in Education in Early Grade Education.

Dr. Dickson Tsey, Principal of the College, emphasized the institution's commitment to gender inclusivity, noting the prioritization of opportunities for women applicants. Additionally, applicants from less-endowed schools and individuals with sports talents were given special consideration.

In a bid to support hard-working students, the College Academic Board has approved the implementation of a scholarship scheme. Dr. Tsey expressed optimism that this initiative would serve as a catalyst for academic excellence among the student body.

During the announcement, Dr. Tsey also highlighted the significant challenges facing the college, including underdeveloped road networks in and around the high-altitude campus and the need for a new auditorium. The current auditorium, built decades ago to accommodate 250 people, is insufficient for the current student population, which exceeds 1000.

Plans and conceptual designs for the proposed auditorium project have been formulated, and the college is appealing to organizations such as and philanthropists for support. This project is a crucial component of the college's five-year strategic plan, launched at the matriculation ceremony.

Rev. Dr. Lawson Danku, the Clerk of the General Assembly of the E. P. Church, who launched the strategic plan, emphasized its significance in advancing excellence in education and fostering a holistic approach to teaching and learning in the 21st century.

The new students were encouraged to seize the opportunity to enroll in “one of the finest colleges of education in the country” and to take advantage of the opportunities available to enhance their college experience.

Following the event, a ten-seater modern toilet facility was commissioned for the women's hostel, with plans announced to provide a similar facility for the male section.

Established by the Bremen Mission in 1946, the Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education continues to uphold its commitment to providing quality education and fostering inclusivity in Ghana's educational landscape.
