The Accra High Court has granted an adjournment to June 27, 2023, in the case involving Nii Charles Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, to allow the parties to file terms of the settlement.
The request for the adjournment was made by Shatta Wale's lawyers, who expressed the need for two weeks to finalize the settlement terms.
Mr Frank Atese Kwabena, counsel for Shatta Wale, informed the court that they had made progress in their discussions. Presiding over the case, Justice Joseph Agyemang Adu Owusu acknowledged the ongoing settlement process and agreed to the adjournment.
The dispute stems from a Facebook post made by Shatta Wale on November 2, 2022, implicating his former manager, Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, also known as Bulldog, in the murder of Fennec Okyere and other accusations.
Bulldog subsequently filed a defamation suit against Shatta Wale, but both parties have expressed their willingness to settle the matter outside of court.
Since the initial request for settlement on March 7, 2023, the parties have appeared in court multiple times, indicating progress in the settlement discussions.
On May 16, 2023, Shatta Wale's lawyers informed the court that the parties had reached an agreement on the settlement terms in principle.
They requested a one-month adjournment to draft the terms of the settlement and submit them to the court for adoption as a consent judgment.
The plaintiff is seeking various declarations from the court, including a declaration of defamation and malicious intent on the part of the defendant.
Additionally, the plaintiff is seeking an order for the defendant to issue a retraction and unreserved apology on his social media platforms, as well as injunctions restraining further defamatory publications and damages for defamation.
