Accra Metro Public Health Department to boost intersectoral collaborations: Ghana News

Mrs. Florence Kuukyi, Director of the Metro Public Health Department at the Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has announced plans to enhance intersectoral collaborations this year to address various public health challenges.

During the year in review of the Metro Public Health Department, Mrs. Kuukyi emphasized the importance of collective action involving multiple specialized agencies to achieve common goals, particularly in light of interconnected (SDGs).

“Improving environmental health is not only a goal in itself, SDG 3, but it is also a catalyst for achieving a broad spectrum of sustainable development objectives,” Mrs. Kuukyi highlighted.

The department, responsible for health, education, and organizing community activities, conducted inspections of over 850 public places, issuing 238 sustainability health and safety certificates to deserving facilities and institutions.

While there was an increase in waste collection premises registration, Mrs. Kuukyi noted challenges faced by the department, including insufficient uniforms and ID cards for staff, inadequate office space, and irregular availability of funds for vehicle maintenance.

Addressing these challenges, Mrs. Kuukyi emphasized the importance of enhancing visibility through uniforms and ID cards, ensuring regular fuel provision for vehicles, and allocating additional office space for enhanced operations.
