Traditional Council appeals to president for urgent road repair in Oti Region

Nana Asete Mensah, President of the Adele Traditional Council in the Region, has made a fervent appeal to President Nana to address the dire state of the road network connecting the area. Speaking to the (GNA), the of Tutukpene expressed deep concern over the appalling condition of the road linking the two Municipalities, citing its adverse effects on vehicular movement and economic activities.

Mensah lamented that despite the road being awarded to contractors, work was abandoned due to the government's failure to release funds. Peter Kaliwa, a former Assembly member of the Kechiebi Electoral Area, highlighted tragic instances where lives were lost due to the inability to transport individuals from communities along the road to hospitals, attributing these tragedies to the road's poor condition.

The reconstruction of the Nkwanta- road, spanning 50 kilometres and initially slated for completion by July 30, 2019, has faced setbacks. Despite a revision on January 20, 2021, the project remains stalled, with no contractors on site.

The deteriorating road network has sparked public outcry, with residents and road users decrying neglect by the government. Some have even threatened to boycott the upcoming general elections if the road is not promptly repaired.

The plea from the Traditional Council underscores the pressing need for urgent action to address the infrastructure challenges facing the region, with hopes resting on government intervention to alleviate the hardships endured by residents and ensure safe and efficient transportation.
