Kasoa: Military officer shot dead in front of police station; Chief arrested

Tragedy struck in the Millennium City area of the Gomoa East District in the as a military officer, believed to be in his late 30s, was shot dead in the midst of a land dispute. The incident occurred in front of the Millennium City Police Station, leaving two other officers who were accompanying the deceased unharmed.

According to sources from , the conflict stemmed from a land purchase made by the brother of one of the military officers from local chiefs in the area. However, persistent resistance from alleged landguards thwarted any development attempts on the land, prompting the military personnel to intervene.

Accompanied by two colleagues, the deceased military officer drove to the area in a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number GR 3591-24, aiming to resolve the issue after lodging a previous complaint at the Millennium City District Police Command.

Upon arrival at the disputed land, they encountered individuals working on the site and instructed them to cease their activities while preparing to lodge a second complaint at the Millennium City District Police station. However, they were confronted by the Gyasehene of Millennium City, Benlord Ababio, who dissuaded them from proceeding to the station.

Despite the chief's plea, the officers decided to head to the Divisional Police Command, as their efforts at the District command had proved futile. It was then that tragedy struck, as the Gyasehene reportedly fired at the officers' vehicle from behind, resulting in the death of one officer and the escape of the others unscathed.

An eyewitness recounted the harrowing event, stating that despite attempts by the chief to dissuade the officers, they pressed on towards the Divisional command. As they began to move their vehicle, the Gyasehene allegedly fired upon them, claiming the life of one officer in the process.

Following the incident, the chief was promptly arrested and taken into custody by the police. Concerns over potential reprisals from the landguards prompted authorities to transfer him to the Division for his safety.
