Anloga District appeals for support after windstorm ravages schools

Mr. Seth Yormewu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Anloga, has issued a plea for assistance from key stakeholders, including the (GES) and Technical and Vocational Education Training (), following a devastating windstorm that struck the district on Tuesday, April 23.

During a thorough assessment of the damage inflicted by the windstorm, Mr. Yormewu emphasized the severity of the destruction and stressed the urgent need for support from relevant authorities to mitigate its impact.

“The damages caused are very huge, and as a district, we may not be able to handle all in time,” stated the DCE. “So, I'm appealing to the authorities, especially the , education stakeholders, and even philanthropists, to help us reroof and reconstruct the schools before they resume in a few days.”

Several educational institutions bore the brunt of the storm's wrath. Atorkor Technical Institute, Anlo Senior High School, and Volta Senior High School (VOLTASCO) suffered extensive damage to various structures, including classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and staff accommodations.

Mr. Philip Bokorgah, the Anloga District National Disaster Management Organisation Coordinator, echoed the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent disruption to the academic calendar, particularly with basic schools scheduled to reopen on April 29.

Efforts are underway to compile comprehensive data on the extent of the damage, with a view to initiating appropriate measures to assist the affected schools. However, the immediate priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, many of whom have been left stranded amidst the aftermath of the storm.

The appeal from the Anloga District underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in times of crisis, highlighting the crucial role of government agencies, educational institutions, and the broader community in addressing challenges and safeguarding the continuity of education.
