Weta Chiefs pledge support to Torgbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI

Showing solidarity and allegiance, Chiefs and residents of Weta Traditional Area in the Ketu North Municipality of the have pledged their unwavering support to Togbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI, the of the area. They affirmed Togbuiga Ashiakpor's legitimacy as the rightful Overlord and champion of progress and development in the region.

During a press conference held at Weta on Friday, March 29, Torgbuiga Tetekpa II, Assistant Secretary to the Weta Traditional Area, reiterated the legitimacy of Togbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI's reign. He emphasized that Togbuiga Ashiakpor had undergone all necessary rites and rituals and was duly gazetted by the Volta Regional as the rightful of Weta Traditional Area. Torgbuiga Tetekpa II highlighted the adherence to chieftaincy customs and the significance of upholding traditional protocols in such matters.

Quoting provisions from the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759), and the code of Royal ethics for chiefs, Torgbuiga Tetekpa II emphasized the gravity of respecting the institution of chieftaincy and denounced any attempts to undermine it. He affirmed the commitment of the Weta Council of Chiefs, led by Togbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI, to pursue legal avenues to uphold the truth and defend the rightful leadership of the Traditional Area.

In a related development, Torgbuiga Ashiagbor IV, the ‘Dusifiaga' of Weta Traditional Area, has petitioned the Volta Regional to reconsider the inauguration of the Weta Traditional Council until all chieftaincy issues are resolved. This underscores the complexity of the situation and the need for due process in resolving disputes within the Traditional Area.

Amidst these developments, the leaders urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that measures would be taken to ensure peace and foster development in the area. Notable traditional leaders present at the occasion included Mamaga Ablewor IV of Weta, Torgbui Adze lll, Torgbuiga Tsetseku Seshie IV, Togbui Adukpo IV, among others.

The declaration of support for Togbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI underscores the significance of traditional leadership and the collective efforts towards promoting unity and progress within the Weta Traditional Area.
