The District Magistrate Court One has sentenced two small-scale miners, Theophilus Nyame and Lord Aidoo, to 20 days of imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a 32-inch LG television set valued at GH₵1,500.00. Both defendants pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and stealing.

Presiding Judge Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah also imposed a fine of GH₵600 each on the convicts. In default of payment, they would serve three months of imprisonment with hard labour each.

According to Sergeant Douglas Addae, the prosecutor, the complainant, Severin Mouity, a gold buyer, and the accused individuals resided in Nsuaem.

On August 31 of this year, the complainant received a distress call from his assistant, who informed him that the office, located near the Royal Midway Hotel in Nsuaem, had been broken into, and the LG television was stolen.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that Nyame was seen with the stolen television on the fateful day at around 4:00 AM. Nyame went into hiding but was eventually arrested on September 9, 2023. During interrogation, Nyame admitted to the theft and implicated Aidoo as his accomplice.

Aidoo, upon arrest, confessed that he had assisted Nyame in carrying the television to his room after the theft.

The court delivered its verdict, sentencing the two individuals to 20 days in prison with hard labour for their crimes.

The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of theft and the importance of respecting the property rights of others.
