Tragic Collision Claims Lives in Eastern Corridor Road Accident

A devastating collision between a Grandbird bus and a Toyota mini-bus along the eastern corridor road between Peki-Adzokoe and Tsibu has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 20 lives.

The incident occurred when the Grandbird bus, en route from to Chinderi in the Region, collided head-on with the Toyota mini-bus, travelling from to .

The collision was of such force that the Toyota was torn into two, while the Grandbird bus veered off the road and landed on its side.

The collision proved fatal for 15 passengers aboard the mini-bus, who lost their lives on the spot. Additionally, five passengers on the Grandbird bus perished in the crash, which unfolded at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

The immediate aftermath saw a joint rescue operation led by personnel from the (GNFS) and staff from the .

The rescue team faced the challenging task of using extrication tools to free the lifeless body of the conductor, who had been trapped inside the severely damaged Grandbird bus.

Numerous injured passengers, totalling more than 20, received medical treatment at the Peki Government Hospital.

Among the injured were eight men, 12 women, three boys, and two girls. Tragically, it was later confirmed that three children were among the deceased.

The victims included 10 women, six men, and four children, as revealed by the at the time of reporting. Unfortunately, officials from the Peki Government Hospital were unavailable for comment.
