Tragedy hits Koforidua COCOBOD office as 3 technicians drawn inside fuel reservoir

A tragic incident at the Ghana Cocoa Board () office in , , has claimed the lives of three technicians who suffocated inside a reservoir. The Effiduase District Police Command is now conducting an investigation into the incident that occurred on Monday.

The victims have been identified as Ashie, Octopus, and Jonathan, part of a maintenance team contracted by the PBC workshop to work on the fuel reservoir.

The circumstances surrounding the suffocation remain unclear. Two other workers tragically lost their lives while attempting to rescue their colleague inside the reservoir.

Authorities were promptly informed of the incident, and an emergency response team, including personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation () Municipal Secretariat, Effiduase Police Command, Ghana Ambulance Service, and , arrived to retrieve the victims' bodies from the underground tank.

Kankam Twumasi Daniel, Deputy Municipal Director of for New Juaben North, stated, “We had to call other departments, thus the Ghana Fire Service, , and Ambulance Service so that we could extricate the bodies from the tank.”

The deceased bodies have been taken to the St. Joseph's Hospital mortuary in Effiduase for preservation and autopsy as investigations into the incident continue.
