The Volta Regional Directorate of the (GTA) marked the 2024 Regional National Chocolate Day with an engaging celebration at the picturesque Wli Waterfalls in the Hohoe Municipality of the . Tourists and pupils alike were treated to an array of activities, including chocolate giveaways and cultural festivities.

Visitors to the Wli Waterfalls were delighted to receive chocolates as tokens of appreciation, enhancing their experience of the natural wonder. Additionally, pupils from the Wli Afegame Roman Catholic School were also beneficiaries of the chocolate treats, adding a touch of sweetness to their day.

Mr Johnny Arthur-Quarm, the Volta Regional Director of GTA, explained that the choice of Wli Waterfalls for the celebration was strategic, aiming to provide tourists with an immersive experience of the falls' rich biodiversity. He emphasized the event's potential to stimulate the local economy and foster tourism development in the Wli area and the wider .

Highlighting ongoing initiatives, Mr. Arthur-Quarm noted the Authority's commitment to revitalizing tourism infrastructure, including the stalled “Visitors Centre” project. He pledged to prioritize efforts to complete the project, which had remained stagnant for over a decade and promised proactive measures to enhance the development of non-marketed tourist attractions across the region.

Expounding on the significance of National Chocolate Day, Mr Arthur-Quarm traced its origins back to 2005 under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture. The observance, coinciding with Valentine's Day on February 14, aims to promote local consumption of chocolates and cocoa products while fostering a healthy orientation towards the holiday.

Local dignitaries, including Mr. Musa Nudanu, the Regent of Wli, commended the GTA for its initiatives and advocated for the establishment of a chocolate sales point at the Falls' office. He further sought support from the Authority to revitalize the Wli Agumatsa Festival, envisioning it as a platform to showcase the region's tourism potential and locally-produced chocolates.

Mr. Dennis Jordor, Chairman of the Wli Governing Council, echoed calls for infrastructure development, emphasizing the need to complete the Wli receptive facility initiated in 2002. He emphasized the facility's significance as the country's first tourism venture and urged swift action to ensure its completion.

Expressing gratitude, Mr Nicholas Agbadza, Assistant Headmaster of Wli Afegame R.C School, thanked the GTA for brightening the pupils' day and boosting their morale with the chocolate treats.

Tourists also commended the GTA for its efforts to promote made-in-Ghana products, highlighting the importance of initiatives like National Chocolate Day in showcasing the country's cultural and culinary heritage.

Under the theme “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana,” with the sub-theme “Explore Ghana, Eat Chocolate,” the 2024 celebration, held from February 9 to 14, served as a reminder of the multifaceted benefits of Ghanaian cocoa products and the allure of local tourism destinations like the Wli Waterfalls.
