Volta Region drawn in Group B for maiden MTN Elite U-19 Championship to discover next generation of Ghanaian football talents

The Volta Region has been drawn in Group B of the maiden MTN Elite U-19 Championship, a new national football tournament launched to discover and nurture the next generation of football stars across Ghana.

Sponsored by telecommunications giant MTN, the competition will take place from October 24 to November 2, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. It is designed for male footballers born between 2007 and 2008 who are registered with Division Two clubs. The championship seeks to provide young players with a platform to represent their regions, compete for national recognition, and attract the attention of scouts and national team coaches.

Chairman of the Championship Committee, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, assured stakeholders of effective organisation and professionalism, describing the initiative as a vital springboard for emerging footballers. He noted that the committee had earlier met with Regional Football Association chairpersons to finalise modalities and ensure smooth coordination for the tournament.

Under the group pairings, Group A features the Northern, Upper West, Brong Ahafo, Eastern, and Western regions, while Group B comprises the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Volta, and Upper East regions.

Mr Agbana expressed optimism that the MTN Elite U-19 Championship would unearth exceptional young talents and strengthen Ghana’s football development pathway, ensuring the country continues to produce world-class players for both domestic and international competitions.
