Mr. Michael K. Boadi, Fundraising Manager at the Ghana Integrity Initiative, emphasized the importance of holding both current and past governments accountable to strengthen the country's integrity system and deter corruption. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Boadi highlighted the recent sentencing of Sedinam Tamakloe-Attionu, former CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), as a significant step towards accountability.
Tamakloe-Attionu, along with her accomplice Daniel Axim, was sentenced to prison for willfully causing financial loss to the state during their tenure at MASLOC. Boadi commended the law enforcement agencies for their diligence in prosecuting corrupt officials, stating that such actions build trust and confidence among citizens.
While acknowledging the progress made in prosecuting corruption cases, Boadi stressed the need for concerted efforts to address corruption comprehensively. He emphasized the importance of proactive measures in handling corruption cases and called for increased public education to deter individuals from engaging in corrupt practices.
Boadi expressed optimism that the court's decision would serve as a deterrent to public officeholders, urging authorities to prioritize good corporate governance. He also highlighted the importance of elevating public education against corruption to further discourage corrupt activities.
Despite Ghana's ranking of 70th in the Corruption Perception Index for 2023, Boadi emphasized the need for continued efforts to combat corruption and improve the country's standing on the global stage. He called for sustained action and collaboration among stakeholders to create a corruption-free society for the benefit of all citizens.
