President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced plans by the government to facilitate the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units for teachers across Ghana.
The President said the Ministry of Works and Housing was engaging teacher unions to help implement the project within two years. He added that the Ministry of Education was also collaborating with the National Service Scheme through a subsidised loan programme to create more housing opportunities for teachers.

Speaking at the opening of the Sixth Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Kumasi, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged that one of the major challenges facing teachers was the inability to acquire homes, especially before retirement.
He said the government was committed to ensuring that teachers could own homes in locations of their choice through affordable housing initiatives and subsidised financing arrangements.
The President described teachers as a critical part of national development, stressing that the quality of teachers remained one of the most important factors in building human capital and transforming the country.
He further stated that improving teachers’ welfare, including access to decent accommodation, was necessary to motivate them to deliver quality education and support Ghana’s development goals.
