Swiss-based company, Mundo Verde Climate, proposes partnership for nature-based climate solutions in Ghana

The Deputy Minister for , Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, has warmly received a proposal for a partnership on nature-based climate solutions from Mundo Verde Climate, a Swiss-based company specializing in carbon credit development and trading. This proposal signifies the company's intent to invest in Ghana's forestry sector for mutual benefits.

Mr Owusu-Bio expressed his enthusiasm for the project when he welcomed a delegation from Mundo Verde Climate to the Ministry. He believes that the proposal is a comprehensive one that would not only benefit Ghana but also have a positive impact on the lives of people residing in the proximity of forestry resources.

The Deputy Minister noted that the Ghanaian government is actively promoting afforestation, and the proposal aligns with these efforts and the global fight against . He encouraged the company to expand its network and explore private plantation ownership, which would extend the benefits to more people.

Madam Kaya, the Managing Partner of Mundo Verde Climate, led the delegation and shared the company's intentions. They are interested in exploring nature-based climate solution projects in Ghana, with a focus on establishing carbon sink areas through the protection and regeneration of degraded forests and mangroves. Additionally, Mundo Verde Climate aims to collaborate with the Ministry and share the carbon asset revenue with Ghana.

Madam Kaya outlined the essential requirements for a successful partnership, which include access to land, a concession for the project partnership, local expertise and know-how, and a cooperative environment. She emphasized that the project's impact would extend beyond capital investment, offering numerous benefits to the country, such as employment opportunities for both women and men in the involved communities, and the development of essential infrastructure like hospitals, roads, schools, and more.
