Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Salifu Ibrahim is close to completing an international switch to represent Benin, following advanced discussions with the Benin Football Federation.
The creative playmaker, currently plying his trade with FC Drita in Kosovo, is eligible to feature for the Squirrels through his family roots in the West African nation. Reports indicate that the 24-year-old has agreed in principle to the nationality switch and could receive his first call-up soon.

Salifu rose to prominence during his time with Eleven Wonders before joining Hearts of Oak, where he played a pivotal role between 2021 and 2024. He helped the Phobians clinch the Ghana Premier League title and later contributed to FC Drita’s league triumph in Kosovo.
His impressive form has reportedly caught the attention of Benin head coach Gernot Rohr, who is eager to integrate him into the squad ahead of the next international window.
Benin, fresh from securing qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, has been drawn in a challenging Group D alongside DR Congo, Senegal, and Botswana.
If confirmed, Salifu’s switch will add creativity and depth to the Benin midfield as they prepare for their upcoming continental campaign.
