Black Queens of Ghana secure emphatic 3-0 win over Egypt in first leg of 2026 WAFCON qualifier

Ismailia, Oct. 24, GNA. The Black Queens of Ghana delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Egypt in the first leg of their 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier, played on Thursday in Ismailia.

Ghana broke the deadlock just before halftime when forward Doris Boaduwaa netted in the 42nd minute following a well-orchestrated team move. Despite creating numerous chances, Ghana was initially denied a larger lead by the heroics of the Egyptian goalkeeper.

The match’s momentum shifted in Ghana’s favour in the 52nd minute after Egypt’s Habiba Essam Mohammed was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle on Ghana’s Grace Asantewaa.

Ghana capitalised on the numerical advantage late in the game, with substitute Mary Amponsah doubling the lead in the 85th minute with a composed finish shortly after entering the pitch. Midfielder Grace Asantewaa sealed the emphatic win with a stoppage-time strike, bringing the final score to 3-0.

The Black Queens demonstrated tactical discipline, creativity, and resilience, maintaining possession and limiting Egypt’s opportunities. The result gives Ghana a significant advantage ahead of the return leg in Accra on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
