Residents of Mankwadze decry deplorable road conditions

Residents of Mankwadze, situated in the Gomoa West District of the , have raised concerns over the appalling state of the community's roads, citing significant challenges that affect their daily lives.

Speaking to the (GNA), residents expressed frustration with the dusty and poorly maintained roads, which they claim pose health hazards, particularly for children who frequently suffer from respiratory issues such as catarrh. The six-kilometre stretch connecting Mankwadze to the - junction road is described as severely deteriorated, exacerbating during rainy seasons with muddy and slippery conditions that impede mobility and economic activities.

Primarily relying on fishing for livelihoods, residents lamented that the deplorable road conditions severely impact their ability to transport fish to nearby markets for sale. Mr. Prince Sarpong, the Unit Committee Chairman for Mankwadze Ablekum Electoral Area, highlighted the detrimental effect on their income, as increased transportation costs erode profits. Furthermore, drivers are reluctant to navigate the treacherous roads, resulting in spoiled goods and financial losses for residents.

The dire situation also affects access to healthcare services, with the only health facility being a Community Health Planning and Service () compound. Residents expressed concerns, especially for pregnant women, who face discomfort and increased risks when seeking medical care at larger hospitals due to the challenging road conditions.

In light of these challenges, residents issued a plea to the government and the Ministry of Roads for urgent intervention to address the road infrastructure deficiencies. They emphasized the potential economic benefits of road improvements, including enhanced market access and improved overall well-being.

Echoing the residents' sentiments, drivers operating along the route highlighted the strain on their vehicles, leading to frequent breakdowns and increased maintenance costs. The deteriorating road conditions not only jeopardize residents' livelihoods but also pose safety risks for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The outcry from Mankwadze underscores the pressing need for immediate action to rehabilitate the community's road network, ensuring safer and more accessible transportation routes.
