Collins Adomako-Mensah, the Deputy Minister-designate for the Energy Ministry, has assured Ghanaians that the government is swiftly addressing the recent power disruptions experienced across the country, aiming to resolve the issue within the next two weeks.
Adomako-Mensah's announcement comes in response to concerns raised by former Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor regarding Ghana's electricity generation capacity. Dr. Donkor disputed President Akufo-Addo's assertion in Parliament that there has been an uninterrupted power supply for the past seven years.
The Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) has attributed the recent sporadic power outages to insufficient fuel supply and plans to engage Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to seek solutions.
In an interview with Citi News, Adomako-Mensah affirmed the government's full commitment to addressing the issue. He acknowledged the recent power outages and stressed that efforts are underway to rectify the situation within the specified timeframe.
“I admit that for the past two or three weeks, there have been some power outages,” Adomako-Mensah stated. “But it is interesting that the two-week power outages are causing the Minority to have a press conference. I am yet to fully settle into the [Energy] Ministry, but the little interaction that I have had with the officers in the Ministry before my vetting is that this should be taken care of in the next two weeks.”
With the government's assurance and proactive steps being taken, Ghanaians can anticipate a swift resolution to the recent power disruptions, ensuring the stability and reliability of the country's electricity supply in the near future.
