Mr Dela Gadzanku, President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) for the Eastern, Volta, and Oti regions, has revealed advancements in plans to set up a chocolate factory in the Volta Region. Feasibility studies are currently underway to identify potential locations for the factory, and discussions with investors from across Africa are ongoing to secure funding for the project.
Mr. Gadzanku made these remarks during a presentation ceremony where the AGI and its partners, including the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and the Volta Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association, distributed chocolates and exercise books to pupils in the Ho Municipality. The beneficiary schools included Avee R.C. Primary and Junior High Schools, as well as Klefe-Dome E. P. Basic School.
Highlighting the rationale behind establishing a chocolate factory in the Volta Region, Mr Gadzanku stressed the importance of adding value to cocoa, given the region's status as a cocoa producer. He noted that such a venture would enhance the competitiveness of Ghana's cocoa products on the market, especially within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Regarding the distribution of chocolates to pupils, Mr Gadzanku explained that this initiative stemmed from the Volta Fair and aimed to sustain the consumption of cocoa products among the youth.
Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, underscored the significance of consuming locally made products and highlighted the importance of Chocolate Day in promoting development and boosting Ghana's chocolate exports. He also advised the youth to steer clear of substance abuse, emphasizing its detrimental effects on their future and overall development.
