Vice President marks 47th anniversary of June 4 uprising

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians to draw lessons from history while working collectively to build a better future, as the nation commemorates the 47th anniversary of the June 4, 1979, uprising.

Speaking at a commemorative event in Banda Ahenkro, the Vice President joined government officials, National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders and members, representatives of the security services, religious leaders and other citizens to mark the occasion.

In her remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said while history contains difficult lessons that should not be forgotten, it is also important to recognise the progress Ghana has made over the years.

She noted that acknowledging the country’s achievements should serve as motivation to strive for even greater progress.

The Vice President stated that the Mahama administration’s reset agenda was designed to reduce government bloat, improve efficiency and strengthen the principles of democracy and accountability.

She stressed that Ghana still has significant work to do in its development journey and encouraged citizens to play an active role in national development.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to contribute towards building the kind of nation they aspire to see.
