The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North Constituency, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has called on the Ministry of Finance to provide details on the budget and amount of money spent so far on the construction of the National Cathedral.
According to him, a clear explanation from the government would help address public concerns and end speculations surrounding the funds allocated to the project.

Mr Adomako-Mensah, who is also a member of Parliament’s Finance Committee, said he was concerned about reports on the amount of money committed to the project, adding that the Ministry of Finance must explain the circumstances surrounding the release of the funds.
He noted that the continuous publication of varying figures on the project was creating negative perceptions about the government.
The MP revealed that the Finance Committee of Parliament was not informed about the government’s allocation of seed capital for the National Cathedral project.
Meanwhile, the MP for Tamale Central, Murtala Muhammed, stressed the need for transparency and adherence to constitutional procedures in financing the project, especially as the estimated cost continues to change.
He said public funds could only be spent with proper approval and urged the government to respect democratic processes and the laws of the country.
The National Cathedral project is intended to provide a national place of worship and host major religious and state events, including state funerals and presidential inauguration services.
The Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral launched a fundraising campaign on September 5, 2021, to mobilise resources for the project, which was scheduled for completion by March 2024.
