Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the 2020 Vice Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on women to prioritize regular breast examinations to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
She emphasized the importance of early detection and encouraged women to take advantage of free screening programs to assess their health status.
Speaking to women in Ashaiman as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the value of screening to ensure that individuals are informed about their health status.
The event was organized by Madam Felicia Bortey, the Greater Accra Regional Women's Organizer for the NDC, for the residents of Ashaiman and surrounding areas.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged women to make use of the expertise available at such screenings, emphasizing that early detection is crucial.
She stated, “Sometimes we don't even know that we are at risk until the situation has well advanced; it is better to be informed today than to regret tomorrow.”
The event drew the participation of several NDC members and officials, including Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbe, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman; Regional Vice Chairman Ibrahim Jaja; Constituency Chairman Sadat Jello; Greater Accra Women's Organizer Jessica Braimah; and Constituency Chairman W.O. Badatu Iddrisu. Constituency Deputy Women's Organizer Beatrice Agbeko Teye, as well as numerous NDC party members, were also present.
Breast cancer awareness and screenings play a vital role in promoting women's health and early detection of potential health issues.
