KNUST Professor urges government not to accept LGBTQ+ in Ghana

During the Peace and Unity Convention 2023 organized by 1Ummah, a consortium of organizations promoting understanding of Islamic values, Professor Dr. Naail Mohammed Kamil, Head of the Department of Human Resource and Organisational Development at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, urged the Ghanaian government not to yield to pressure to accept LGBTQIA+ in the country.

The convention, held under the theme “Pathways to Thrive: Embracing Uncertainty and Igniting Growth,” brought together over 1,500 participants to interact with Islamic clerics on key issues concerning the Muslim community.

Prof. Kamil emphasized Ghana's sovereignty and the need to maintain the values and fabric of the Ghanaian community, stating that accepting LGBTQIA+ would go against these principles.

Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad, President of 1Ummah, explained that they chose to host the event in Ghana for the first time due to the similarities in culture, values, and rich history between Ghana and .

Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Salah, a renowned Egyptian Islamic Scholar, advised participants to adhere to the teachings of Islam and refrain from behaviour contrary to those principles. He emphasized the importance of being an example worth emulating and caring for the welfare of others.

The convention aimed to improve the quality of life through spiritual engagement and provide guidance on handling challenges in life.
