Presiding Members from all 29 Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region celebrated Mr Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, for his initiatives and general performance during the two-day conference in Accra.
Mr Joseph Korto, National Dean of the Association of Presiding Members, commended the Regional Minister for the “Operation clean your frontage” initiative which has improved sanitation in the region and set an example for other regions.
He added that Quartey's excellent performance led to him being celebrated as the best Minister in 2022 and receiving the Order of Volta Award from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr Korto called for an amendment to bridge the gap between the dissolution of Assemblies and the re-election of members to avoid creating developmental challenges.
Mr Baba Seidu, Representative of the Regional Minister, encouraged Presiding Members to continue serving the country loyally, despite the challenges the country was going through. He praised the PMs for their meaningful contribution towards the development and called them the core players of grassroots democracy.
Mr Seidu announced that the Ashanti, Western and Northern Regions were also making moves to initiate sanitation programs as a sequel to the Greater Accra Regional Minister's “operation clean your frontage.”
Mr Samson Akwetey, Representative of Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, urged the Assemblies to re-strategize against filth and put up monitoring measures to arrest people engaged in the destruction of sanitation facilities in the cities.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the Presiding Members presented a giant plaque in honour of the Regional Minister.
