The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued an official update on the feeding situation at Savelugu Senior High School following the circulation of a video on social media in January 2026 that raised concerns about the quality of meals served to students.
In a statement dated February 4, 2026, the GES said it conducted investigations into the incident and established that on the day in question, students were scheduled to be served jollof rice with eggs for supper.

However, the supplier failed to deliver the eggs. As a result, the school went ahead to serve the meal without eggs and assured students that double protein would be provided in a subsequent meal.
Management of the GES described the decision taken by the school as unacceptable, noting that alternative measures could have been explored to address the situation.
The Service further explained that the headmaster was absent at the time of the incident, having obtained approval from the Municipal Director of Education.
According to the findings, the incident also coincided with the booking of the school’s dining hall for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency event. During the activity, a party member allegedly took advantage of the administrative lapse to record and mischievously circulate the video that later went viral.
GES emphasized that the incident was an isolated case caused by inadequate supervision by the school leadership at the time. It stressed that, contrary to the impression created by the video, the situation does not reflect the school’s usual feeding arrangements.
Management has since taken disciplinary action, including the temporary assignment of the Municipal Director of Education to supervise the school’s feeding system.
The Ghana Education Service assured parents, students, and the general public that the provision of adequate and quality meals for students remains a top priority and pledged continued efforts to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
