Former President Akufo-Addo launches “The Republic” chronicling Ghana’s rise as a cybersecurity role model

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday officially launched the book, “The Republic: A Professional Journey, Ghana’s Cybersecurity and The Making of a Role Model Country,” authored by Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, former Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority and founder of Ghana’s e-Crime Bureau.

The book highlights nearly 15 years of Dr Antwi-Boasiako’s pioneering contributions to Ghana’s cybersecurity sector, spanning both public and private initiatives, and traces the country’s journey from its formative stages to becoming a tier-1, globally recognised role model, with Ghana’s ranking in the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index rising from 32.6% in 2017 to 99.27% in 2024.

Speaking at the launch, Former President Akufo-Addo praised Dr Antwi-Boasiako and collaborators for positioning Ghana as a “beacon of excellence and innovation” in cybersecurity across Africa and beyond.

He stressed the importance of coordinated leadership, ministerial oversight, and technical expertise to maintain Ghana’s competitive edge in the sector.

He encouraged the public to read the book, describing it as an inspiring resource for future generations and aspiring public servants.

The publication is structured in five parts, offering behind-the-scenes insights, policy decisions, strategies, and reflections on the collective efforts that shaped Ghana’s cybersecurity ecosystem.

Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe of the Court of Appeal reviewed the book, while other dignitaries, including Mr C.K. Btuce, CEO of Innovare, and Italian Ambassador to Ghana Madam Laura Ranalli, congratulated Dr Antwi-Boasiako on his achievements.
