The session highlighted the history and evolution of the Cedi through interactive discussions and fun games. Dr Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, urged pupils to take their studies seriously, noting they represent the country’s future. He was joined by his Deputies, Dr Zakari Mumuni and Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, in sharing wisdom and engaging with the students.
The celebration concluded with music, lunch, and a festive atmosphere, reflecting a day of learning, legacy, and national pride.
Launched under the theme “60 Years of the Cedi: A Symbol of Sovereignty, Stability, and Economic Resilience,” the event commemorates Ghana’s adoption of the Cedi on July 19, 1965, marking the nation’s economic independence and transition from colonial rule.
The Cedi has undergone significant reforms and redesigns over six decades, symbolising Ghana’s resilience, self-determination, and progress. The anniversary also provided a platform to enhance policy literacy, promote the Bank’s Clean Note Campaign, and inspire the next generation to value and protect the integrity of the national currency.
